Simonetta Sipione, PhD.

Professor

I obtained my PhD. in Biochemistry from the University of Catania. I then trained as a PDF at the University of Milano and at the University of Alberta.

Beside science, I am passionate about design and architecture. I enjoy reading and outdoor activities.

I was born and raised in Valdivia, in the south of Chile. I am a Biochemist and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology that enjoys a lot doing research in Neuroscience. I am also an open water diver and outside of the lab I enjoy collecting books and movies, playing boardgames, cooking and taking care of my cats

Magnus Stenlund

Undergraduate Student

I am an undergraduate physiology student from Jasper, Alberta, and I am an outdoors enthusiast who loves bikes and getting lost in the mountains. 

Graduate Student

I have completed my BSc. Honors in Pharmacology and I will start my PhD in Pharmacology in September. Beyond science, I like to spend my time searching for old jazz albums, learning history, and refereeing basketball. I've recently immersed into the delicious world of baking as well.

Research  Associate

I received Masters in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and in System Biology and Bioinformatics from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai. Before joining the Sipione Lab, I worked as a PDF at University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and as a research associate at Case Western Reserve University. 

In my leisure time, I love gardening, nature, long drives and spending time with my family."

John Monyror

I am a graduate student in the pharmacology program. My research focuses on neuroprotective mechanisms activated by gangliosides in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.  I earned my BSc in Pharmacology (Hons) from the University of Alberta in 2019. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, and spending time with friends.

I am a PhD candidate in Neuroscience. I received a B.Sc. in Life and Medical Sciences as well as a M.Sc. in Medical Science (Neuroscience) from Tel-Aviv University. In my free time I enjoy running and baking.

Diego Ordonez

Technician

I have a degree in Medicine and a master in Neuroscience from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. I have also completed a Bachelor in Management Technology at NAIT. Beyond scince, I enjoy reading, biking and contemplating Mother Nature.  Weather permitting, I cycle as much as I can. I have a record of 120 Km in a day and I am part of a cycling team in Colombia.
