Simonetta Sipione, PhD.
I obtained my PhD. in Biochemistry from the University of Catania. I then trained as a PDF at the University of Milano and at the University of Alberta.
Beside science, I am passionate about design and architecture. I enjoy reading and outdoor activities.

After receiving my doctoral degree from the University of Calgary in 2020 I began my journey as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta. I am passionate about science and understanding its various facets. I have keen interest for teaching. I practice yoga and meditation, enjoy reading and love to travel.
I am an undergraduate physiology student from Jasper, Alberta, and I am an outdoors enthusiast who loves bikes and getting lost in the mountains.
I have completed my BSc. Honors in Pharmacology and I will start my PhD in Pharmacology in September. Beyond science, I like to spend my time searching for old jazz albums, learning history, and refereeing basketball. I've recently immersed into the delicious world of baking as well.
I am a 3rd year student in the Physiology BSc. Honors program.
I am someone who loves to laugh with my friends and family, create art, listen to music, and spend time in nature.
I received Masters in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and in System Biology and Bioinformatics from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai. Before joining the Sipione Lab, I worked as a PDF at University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and as a research associate at Case Western Reserve University.
In my leisure time, I love gardening, nature, long drives and spending time with my family."
I am a graduate student in the pharmacology program. My research focuses on neuroprotective mechanisms activated by gangliosides in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. I earned my BSc in Pharmacology (Hons) from the University of Alberta in 2019. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, and spending time with friends.
I am a PhD candidate in Neuroscience. I received a B.Sc. in Life and Medical Sciences as well as a M.Sc. in Medical Science (Neuroscience) from Tel-Aviv University. In my free time I enjoy running and baking.
I am an undergraduate Pharmacology major who grew up in Edmonton. Outside of the lab, I do a lot of dance, including breaking and hip hop. I also enjoy listening to and writing horror stories.
I graduated from NAIT’s Biological Sciences program in 2006 and began working in the Sipione lab shortly after. In my spare time I enjoy reading and sewing, as well as camping and hiking with my partner and our two kids.
